Defense against Charges of Criminal Theft

Shoplifting ▪ Burglary ▪ Armed Robbery ▪ Fraud ▪ Embezzlement ▪ Grand Theft

Criminal theft offenses sometimes seem less threatening than violent crimes, but the consequences can be devastating. Considered a “crime of moral turpitude,” theft and fraud are crimes that can disqualify you from many jobs, impact your credit, keep you from obtaining government services, and could get you deported.

I am a criminal defense trial lawyer with over 25 years of criminal defense experience, and I have defended countless people charged with property crimes such as, vandalism, shoplifting, receiving stolen goods, embezzlement, credit card fraud, welfare fraud, grand theft auto, burglary, and robbery. My goal, and the goal of my legal team at Barney B. Gibbs, Attorney at Law, is always to provide you with the best possible defense in your situation. I will fight for reasonable bail or bond, or to keep you out of jail on your own recognizance.

Contact me now for a free consultation about your criminal theft charge and your legal options. I am available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, and I can meet you in jail.

Orange County Criminal Theft Defense

There are real options for people charged with property crimes that could keep you out of jail. For example, there are two programs created by the State of California especially to help people charged with property offenses pay back the money they stole and get their lives back on the right track:

  • Civil compromise: Under this program, your criminal charge could be dismissed if your victim and the court agree to receive restitution for the crime. This is frequently an option when you are charged with stealing from a family member or an organization that does not want publicity.
  • Diversion: Upon recommendation of the prosecutor, your sentence could be suspended and you could be diverted to a program in which you complete community service, pay restitution, attend counseling, or meet other condition ordered by the court.

Besides civil compromise and diversion, I have obtained a variety of other alternative sentencing for my clients, including house arrest, substance abuse treatment, private jail, community service, and probation. I can advise you about bail and bond options and the possibility of release on your own recognizance. Over the course of my practice, I have also succeeded in having more than 1,000 charges dismissed for my clients. If it is in your best interest, I will not hesitate to take your case to trial.
